| Yuelamu - Mt Allan | The home of Honey Ant Dreaming and the burial place of one of the Western Deserts most famous sons Clifford Tjapaltjarri Possum.
Mount Allan Station home of the Yuelamu artists is situated some 250 km west of Alice Springs just off the Tanami Road. Yuelamu is one of the main honey ant dreaming sites for this whole area of central Australia and from which dreaming tracks of the ancestral honey ants radiate in several directions across the country the area remained in aboriginal hands from longer time the neighbouring parts mainly due to the more arid and conditions and unsuitability for cattle. In 1946 Didi Smith took out the Mount Allan lease and he ran Mt Allan Station for the next 30 years until it was purchased in 1976 on behalf of the Mount Allan Aboriginal Community by the Aboriginal Land Fund Commission. |
